Classic 60′s Fancy Dress Costumes ? Follow the Hippies for Real Colour

Everyone likes colour and colour is making a comeback.  In the 1960′s the hippie revolution really took hold and it shook fashion, and a few other things, to the core.  And, as if in fitting tribute, some of the wonderful fashions and styles of the 60′s are making a comeback as we appear to have moved full circle with a resurgence of both some of the hippy values as well as the clothing.

And with the massive revival and interest in pop concerts and with the huge crowds currently being drawn to music festival attendance it really does feel like some of the good parts of the 60′s are returning.  So a hippie costume themed party would seem a safe bet during the summer and makes a great and colourful alternative to a luau or beach party fancy dress costume theme.

The only rule to hippy fancy dress costumes is that there are no rules, or none that need to be obeyed.  Anything went as long as it was colourful and took a giant step away from the drabness of the mainstream fashion.  Although Hippy fashion was led from San Francisco and London it was based on traditional fabrics and designs from countries like India, China, Morocco and Central America and its leaders and main consumers were initially the pop stars of the day who also found themselves on a path of rebellion.  The only real switch over fashion that existed in both worlds was the faithful miniskirt, a style that has outlasted all other fashion statements.

If you are looking to assemble your own Hippie costume you’ll need to dive back into your wardrobe and see what you have from the period.  Again the only limitation to the costume is that from your own psychedelic imagination.  Bellbottom trousers ruled and these can be made by inserting a triangular piece of material into the outer seam of a pair of blue jeans.  The wider the flare you require the longer the inset into the seam needs to be.  Team these with a bright coloured dashiki or kaftan, or a tie dyed top for the best effect.  Add a long wig and headband of matching psychedelic material a couple of flowers and decorate the whole ensemble with plenty of peach and love symbols.

However you are creating your Hippie fancy dress you will need plenty of costume accessories.  Easily acquired these can include colourful vests and patchwork or frilly jackets, granny glasses, long wigs with beads or Afro wigs which can be either short or huge depending on your own style.  Jewellery would include bangles, rings, ankle bracelets and the peace symbol and other eastern symbols should be considered. 

And hippy costumes are also suitable for costume parties themed to films like Austin Powers and remember that this was the time of sayings like ‘Feeling Groovy’ and ‘Yeah Baby’.  So if you invest in a Hippy fancy dress costume then it will hopefully be possible to use it on a number of occasions.

And if you can enlist a few friends who are up for the idea, and you have a selection of suitable music you can recreate your own Woodstock or Isle of Wight festival.  It doesn’t matter how many hippy costumes there are it’s unlikely that any two will be the same and Hippie fancy dress costumes are available for men and women and smaller costumes are available in children’s sizes.

Invitations to the party can be simple cards printed with the iconic peace symbol or a selected expression of the time.  Psychedelic colouring should be used wherever possible or alternatively bright colours.  Party decorations should include some painted anti-war or anti anything posters and can include flower cutouts or just flowers, daisy chains if you have time or buy some daisy styled flower accessories and scatter these around your buffet table – and don’t forget the incense. The possibilities are endless and the same decorative theme will work for adult parties as well.

Snuff Films: Are They Real?

Snuff films, over the years, have been a subject of controversy. Much has been said and written about snuff films being real or not. Many people still do not know what these actually are, although they may have watched some so called snuff films. You can even find people’s personal notions about snuff films on the internet. Most of them believe that these are unreal and mere publicity gimmicks and notorious acts of playing with public’s emotions and fantasies. It is believed that there are some filmmakers who exploit the idea of snuff films to make money.

A snuff film is said to be a film that depicts actual actresses being brutally murdered, basically stabbed or shot in the head, without the use of any special effects. Supposedly, some people find these films extremely thrilling. Whether these acts are real or not, these are given a life like depiction on screen influencing the intrinsic desire of a group of people to watch violent scenes. Many snuff films also depict extreme sexual violence ending with the purported murder of the submissive. It is, however, important to note that many filmmakers claim to have made snuff films but the evidence backing the claim is still lacking. This leads to the idea that the whole thing is urban legend and no such movie was ever made.

The concept of snuff films came to light in 1976 when a film with the same name was released. The film was made by Michael and Roberta Findlay and remained a subject of debate for a long time as to whether the acts shown in the film were real or fake. The film was later resurrected by Allan Shackelton who named it ‘Slaughter’. Taking advantage of the earnestness among general public, he retooled the film by imparting it a new look and by adding provocative ending shots to it. He even hired actors to stage protest against the film to raise people’s curiosity about the content of the film. The film got mixed response with many people rushing to cinema halls to watch it while others denounced it completely.

A number of slasher movies were later made by filmmakers who wanted to explore the idea of snuff films. Many documentary films also came up showing footages of accidental deaths and real executions. However, these typically may not be called snuff films on the basis of their definition.

Many people strongly believe that snuff films have been made and are still made in the underbelly of the porn industry. On the other hand, disbelievers maintain that these are nothing but hoaxes as found out during various investigations conducted by law enforcement agencies for many such films. However, there have been instances when some people, mainly terrorist bodies, have put up videos on the Internet showing themselves actually beheading their victims. In another incident, Leonard Lake and Charles Ng are said to have recorded torture being inflicted by them on some women that were later killed by them as shown in the video.

Most Americans know that Rhode Island is the smallest state in the union in terms of landmass. Fewer people know, however, that Rhode Island holds a few other other distinctions. For instance, it was the first colony to declare independence from England and it is the state with the longest name, as its official title is the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. Trivia aside, however, Rhode Island is also a nice place to call home, especially for people who love the ocean. When shopping for a home in the area, one great resource to use is Craigslist.

Craigslist is a network of sites for communities throughout the United States and around the globe. The Craigslist network helps people connect to have garage sales, sublease an apartment, find a job, and even spark a new relationship. Initially, CL began as a resource for just the San Francisco Bay Area in 1995. By 2006, there was a Craigslist site representing each of 450 cities, U.S. states and Canadian provinces. With a few exceptions, advertising on Craigslist is free, and postings are placed in various sections, all organized into major categories for easy browsing and navigation.

Whether you are moving to Rhode Island and are in search of housing, or you already live there and just looking for change in scenery, the housing section of Craigslist RI (http://providence.craigslist.org) is an invaluable resource. The “real estate for sale” board is the place to start for those looking to buy a new home. While browsing the listings, you would do well to notice the search tool at the top of the page. This allows you to narrow down the listings based on price, keyword, or whether the listing includes images. This can be a big time saver, as it cuts down and having to manually weed through each listing title.

One of the most useful features about Craigslist is that it not only allows posters to include pics in the listings, but will also provide a link to a map of the property’s location based on the address. Simply click on the “google map” or “yahoo map” link near the bottom of a listing, and you can instantly see where the property is located within the state. This is especially useful if you know a few things about the geography of Rhode Island already and know certain locations you might want to be live near.

Rhode Island’s location makes it a great place to live.
