Classic 60′s Fancy Dress Costumes ? Follow the Hippies for Real Colour
Everyone likes colour and colour is making a comeback. In the 1960′s the hippie revolution really took hold and it shook fashion, and a few other things, to the core. And, as if in fitting tribute, some of the wonderful fashions and styles of the 60′s are making a comeback as we appear to have moved full circle with a resurgence of both some of the hippy values as well as the clothing.
And with the massive revival and interest in pop concerts and with the huge crowds currently being drawn to music festival attendance it really does feel like some of the good parts of the 60′s are returning. So a hippie costume themed party would seem a safe bet during the summer and makes a great and colourful alternative to a luau or beach party fancy dress costume theme.
The only rule to hippy fancy dress costumes is that there are no rules, or none that need to be obeyed. Anything went as long as it was colourful and took a giant step away from the drabness of the mainstream fashion. Although Hippy fashion was led from San Francisco and London it was based on traditional fabrics and designs from countries like India, China, Morocco and Central America and its leaders and main consumers were initially the pop stars of the day who also found themselves on a path of rebellion. The concept of snuff films came to light in 1976 when a film with the same name was released. The film was made by Michael and Roberta Findlay and remained a subject of debate for a long time as to whether the acts shown in the film were real or fake. The film was later resurrected by Allan Shackelton who named it ‘Slaughter’. Taking advantage of the earnestness among general public, he retooled the film by imparting it a new look and by adding provocative ending shots to it. Many people strongly believe that snuff films have been made and are still made in the underbelly of the porn industry. On the other hand, disbelievers maintain that these are nothing but hoaxes as found out during various investigations conducted by law enforcement agencies for many such films. However, there have been instances when some people, mainly terrorist bodies, have put up videos on the Internet showing themselves actually beheading their victims. In another incident, Leonard Lake and Charles Ng are said to have recorded torture being inflicted by them on some women that were later killed by them as shown in the video.
