Many people today are aware of the great benefits learning to play a musical instrument can have on their lives, including emotionally, academically, and mentally. For this reason, many parents and teachers encourage their children or students to practice music and participate in musical functions, regardless whether the child will make music a lifelong pursuit and a career.

With that said, some of us tend to defy one of the most crucial steps when learning to play a musical instrument, thereby causing us to stumble in the beginning of our musical pursuit and ending our thirst for music before we even begin. That is, we tend to FORCE ourselves to LEARN the instrument we are playing instead of just PLAYING the instrument we are playing.

Academic studies, such as math, science, and literacy, are generally composed of a vast compilations of various facts and common sense. Thus, all that is needed from the student is the interest to learn and the will to listen and to gain knowledge. Hence, even when FORCING oneself to learn, sometimes without having any interest in what’s being taught and studied, the ability to obtain knowledge and information is easily achieved.

Very different though is the study of music. Music can only be acquired to us when we have the interest and feel for the music, and most importantly, when we are not FORCING ourselves to play the instrument we are trying to play, but rather PLAY with the music. Exploring your new instrument as a pastime while relaxing, as a hobby, or just ‘for fun’ will result with the most desirable musical learning experience. To use an example, if you would go for drum lessons and at lesson one your music teacher would explain to you on the chalk board the varies beats and tempo, the exact position of where your left foot should be on the bass, or how many inches away from the snare your hand should be, I would suggest you replace your current instructor for another, because a drummer you definitely will not be.

A good music teacher will begin your very first lesson by sitting you down on the drum stool, showing you where to position yourself, and then having you just begin drumming! Of course, you will need practice and patience, but the key to learning how to play a musical instrument is not by trying, rather by playing. Yes, your first gig might be in a need of some help, but by constantly playing you will hear and know yourself where you are doing good and where you need to make some changes. Remember, do not TRY to drum, just drum and in no time you will be learning and best of all, really having a lot of fun!

Of course, once you have the basics, you will learn varies beats, tempo, musical notes and the like, but that is only AFTER you have acquired the basics. This critical and most important step when approaching a musical instrument applies not only when we adults learn to play music, but this applies for kids playing music too. When your child first begins exploring his instrument, do not pressure him to learn to play, rather let him play and toy with it first. The results will be truly amazing!

No offense intended: But what are MUST PLAY songs for African American wedding receptions?

Sunday, April 29th, 2012

Question by I’m thicker than a Snicker: No offense intended: But what are MUST PLAY songs for African American wedding receptions?
I won and dj and while I don’t doubt his skills, I don’t think that he knows what black people play at our weddings. We do alot of specific line dancing, and have certain songs that MUST be played at ALL of our parties.

So the point is I want to make sure that he knows a nice majority of what’s needed.
Can you share some most play songs

how can i play my HD movies on a LED TV without losing its screen resolution quality.?

Question by cholo: how can i play my HD movies on a LED TV without losing its screen resolution quality.?
When i play my movies on a LED TV, its a little bit blurry (my movies are in “.mkv” file extension and they are blu-ray ripped)
i played my .mkv files on my laptop and it works pretty well. The video and audio quality are good but when i try to play it on a LED TV, the video quality is not that good.

Best answer:

Answer by ZABISBA
The source material may be the culprit. If the .mkv file’s source material is not good, it won’t translate well. Also, the encoding techniques/settings that were employed will have an effect on how good the quality of the file is. This may require some trial and error to get the right encoding settings. I ripped my dvd collection to digital files and I had to experiment for awhile before I found the settings that gave me the best picture quality.

If you are downloading files from the internet, some groups are better at encoding than others, look for audio video ratings in the comments to determine if the download quality is good. In general, no encoding format is flawless, but .mkv comes pretty close to the HD source material. Good luck.

Can a guitar be tuned to play the Arabic music scale?

Saturday, September 24th, 2011

Question by Azure Z: Can a guitar be tuned to play the Arabic music scale?
I’ve read that the Arabic musical scale is divided into 16 tones. (The standard Western musical scale is divided into 12 tones).

Is it possible to tune a standard guitar to play all 16 tones on the Arabic music scale, or would you have to change the spacing of the frets to do this?

Best answer:

Answer by samuraicoder
Yes.

For the tuning see http://www.studybass.com/tools/chord-scale-note-printer/

Will an analog tv if used as a monitor to play dvds work with a dvd player after going digital in 2009?

Saturday, July 23rd, 2011

Question by Sharon: Will an analog tv if used as a monitor to play dvds work with a dvd player after going digital in 2009?
And also, will a vcr work? I’m talking about a regular dvd player and without doing anything special. No cable tv. Cause I have tons of dvds and vhs tapes and don’t like regular tv shows.

Best answer:

Answer by Light Knight
Don’t worry too much about it.
If you have a TV that works now with your DVD player, it will still work when the off-air stations go all digital. It just won’t be able to pick up and decode those digital off-air stations. There will likely be a few interface boxes that will decode the digital signal and convert it to an analog signal that will be playable on older sets.
No promises that you’ll be able to get a replacement in case of failure.

How do i play a movie from my pc on a tv?

Question by lemonzephyr7: How do i play a movie from my pc on a tv?
I am trying to watch a movie on my tv that is stored on my pc. I do not have a DVD burner but I do have a CD burner. The movie has already been converted to DiVX but is still too large to fit on a CD-R. I have an S-Video output on my PC and an S-Video input on my TV. While setting up the movie I can see my desktop on the TV so I know it’s working. Once I start the movie I can see the movie on my PC but not on my TV, but I can still see my desktop elements on the TV. It is my guess that the video is playing back at over 450 lines of resolution which my PC can display with no problem but my TV can’t. How do I drop the resolution of the video down to 450 lines to show on my TV?

Best answer:

Answer by QuickCobra
SVIDEO
Then go into video setting and set the display to televison and use the fn screen swap key to have it swap to tv only.

You cannot over USB. USB only works with regular FAT drives and file systems. The iPod touch is not that.

You will need an iPod A/V cable to connect your iPod to the TV to watch.

by rafeejewell

Question by entrechat: What music can I play while my baby is around?
I’m looking for something enriching, I guess you could say.
Soft classical music; Mozart, Vivaldi.
We also have some gentle tribal music as well.
And I’m contemplating playing musicals in the car?
But I’m afraid that they might be a little too…exciting?
I’ve got the Broadway performance of The Lion King on tape, so.
