world news
by World Economic Forum

One of the worst things you can do for your positive thinking is to watch, listen and read the News. I have deliberately not watched the news for over five years now.

I believe that all the negativity from the news media, leads people to think that the world is such a dreadful place and that there is a mugger around every corner. In which case, we should be mugged at least 300 times a year.

Friends of mine always states that they have to keep in touch with what is going on in the world and they don’t feel ‘connected’ until they have a coffee and have watched the news on TV. I just call it an addiction.

When I finally gave up watching the news it was like I had tried to give up drugs. I had the cold turkeys and felt that I was missing out on something. However, I quickly began to realise that there is more positive stuff going on in the world.

Don’t get me wrong there will be more natural and unnatural disasters that we will not have any control over and the most I can do is to be giving of my time, prayer and money to help those made homeless and lost families in need of water, food, and shelter. It is important to help others whenever you can however you can.

There will of course be those who say that the world will end in 2012 or that the earth will reclaim what it needs to survive. They say to expect more disasters and misery leading up to and in 2012. I’m more optimistic and I tend to throw out that mumbo jumbo stuff as pessimistic nonsense. There is no doubt that we need to be kinder to the world and each other. We really don’t need a pending disaster to tell you to love each other as we would love ourselves. The real pain is not being able to tell those people we have lost how we love them.

There will always be someone who will tell me what disasters I have missed on the news. I never get over the surprised look on their faces when I say that I didn’t hear about that particular incident.

Spending time watching the news is really wasting time. I do believe that we can spend our time more productively than to swamp our minds negative news. As I say, someone will always find away to bring the negative in to a conversation. I do turn it around and ask what they are doing to help those in need and how we can work together to make a change to the positive. It is hard to get someone to look at the positive in every situation when they are tuned in to seeing the negative. I know that it is hard when you have lost love ones to suddenly start to see the positives. I just think that we need to recognise that in our grief, we need to be strong and show respect to those we have lost, by living life to the full and giving to life in the full.

I throw down this challenge. Give up the news for the next 30 days and pay close attention to how you are viewing the world after 30 days. I can guarantee that you will see more positives in the world than you ever did.

PANMUNJOM – With weapons at the ready, members of 194th Combat
Sustainment Support Battalion set out at dawn to conduct convoy
live-fire training here, March 25.

The fast-paced exercise exposed Soldiers to many of the real-world
perils found on today’s asymmetric battlefield, culminating in a series
of drills designed to hone their skills in reacting to road-side bombs
and enemy small-arms fire.

"These Soldiers have been training for the past six months to prepare
for this day and their hard work is evident in the outstanding
performance I’ve seen throughout the battalion," said Command Sgt. Maj.
Nichelle S. Fails.

At times gritty and intense, the Soldiers worked in teams to zero in on
enemy targets with their rifles and machine guns.

"This scenario is interesting and very realistic," said Pvt. Jiwoo Kim,
a KATUSA assigned to the battalion.

Pvt. Dylan Florres, a battalion mechanic and one of the day’s enemy
combatant role-players, sees the training as realistic and a good way to
build unit cohesion. "What we are doing is basically helping Soldiers
learn how to train safely and work as a team," he said.

"Everybody is highly motivated and ready to fight," said Chief Warrant
Officer 4 Joseph Williams, HHC, 194th Combat Support Sustainment
Battalion, safety officer. "Taking care of our Soldiers is very
important, we don’t want any injuries. That’s why we do risk assessments
and go over all of the details to make this a very safe, yet realistic,
training environment."

Master Sgt. Kenneth Ashley, the day’s pyrotechnics NCO, described the
training as important in building teamwork within the battalion. "Here
in Korea and in places like Iraq and Afghanistan, we need to make sure
our Soldiers know how to react under fire and to ensure they are
prepared for anything the enemy throws at them."

News Article Writing – Uncover 4 Intriguing Ways to Advance at News Article Writing

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012
breaking news
by ekai

Advancing in the field of news article writing is relatively easy as the elements you need to use are basically the same. News articles follow certain format and use the same language and writing style so you can never go wrong. In order to succeed in this field, you need to follow some guidelines that are considered very important in the field of journalism. These are the following:

1. Stick with facts. You can’t really make up stories when writing news articles. Unlike when writing for the web, you will surely be held liable for any wrong information that you feed to your readers. As this will greatly affect your reputation, I recommend that you choose only reliable sources and that you verify all your information before you get your articles published.

2. Write with clarity. News article writing is not a field where you have the right to confuse your readers. You must be able to write in such a way that your audience will understand your stories without the need to read them over and over again.

3. Be the first. This is one of the secrets to make a lasting mark in this field. See to it that you’re always the first one to know and write about breaking news. If you do this all the time, it is more likely that you’ll be able to promote easy recall among your target audience.

4. Keep it short. Although there are some people who may be able to spend hours reading newspapers, there are more who are pressed for time. To serve them better, ensure that you keep your articles relatively short and concise. Tell your stories using as few words a possible.

By the way, do you want to learn more about using articles like this to drive traffic to your website and increase online conversions?

If so, I suggest you check this out: article marketing traffic.

The biggest news in pictures yesterday was a massive wildfire through northeastern Minnesota which had expanded to over 100,000 acres on Wednesday with haze and the smell of smoke detectable as far away as Chicago and Toronto. The blaze rapidly speeded up this week with the help of consistent northwesterly winds growing to 60,000 acres (24,281 hectares) in just 24 hours. The haze from the fire was heavy enough that some people reported burning eyes and difficulty breathing in the Chicago area. On Wednesday, it had doubled in size again, charring 100,000 acres of wilderness. It is Minnesota’s biggest blaze in 93 years, according to Minnesota Public Radio. No injuries were reported and no buildings had been destroyed, but 36 homes in the nearby community of Isabella were evacuated as a precaution, she said.
