Cables – The Missing Link – Desktop Audio Upgrade Part 2
audio

Image by Jordanhill School D&T Dept
So over the last two or three weeks I’ve grown accustomed to the sound of the Nuforce Icon HDP and Quad QPM1 combination. The HDP has been connected to the iMac via the supplied generic USB cable supplied in the box. The Quads have had the audio signal passed to them via a couple of Monster Audio 250 Interlink phono cables. Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been working late on the computer and listening to music with a pair of Sennheiser HD 238 ‘phones plugged into the HDP. Although the sound from the Quads has been pretty damn good it struck me that the sound from the 238’s was a bit punchier, cleaner, smoother and had a far better sense of depth and airiness around the instruments. Now these are good, but not great, cans. They certainly sound much better through the HDP than they do through my iPhone. It’s clear the HDP has far more power available to drive them properly. But they are not in the same audio league as the Quads.

So why did they sound better? What I was hearing from the Quads was beginning to annoy me. Complex passages of music, be it driving rock or orchestral pieces, were indistinct and lacked pace and dynamism. Compared to the headphones the sound was nowhere near as refined and articulate. At times with the headphones on I forgot I was wearing them and I was convinced sounds were actually coming from the room around me. I didn’t get this effect with the Quads.

Surely it couldn’t be the cables? As far as I was aware all the USB cable had to do was feed a bunch of zeros and ones along some copper and into the HDP DAC. Being digital, I wasn’t convinced the signal could degrade enough over the metre length of the cable to make much difference to the DAC. Then I started looking into it and discovered that cable manufacturers were adamant that jitter and timing errors could have a significant effect on the DAC’s ability to convert the data stream without introducing a detrimental effect on the audio fidelity. I have to admit that I was quite sceptical about this. But then again it all seemed quite technical and the more I read the more I began to be persuaded there might just be something in their claims. Also from my experience of the Quad 12l2’s in the front room hooked up to the Arcam with Audioquest Indigo cable I was sure the Quad QPMs should sound a hell of a lot better than they currently did.

The Wireworld Ultraviolet USB cable was getting rave reviews from the likes of What Hi-fi and they’re generally fairly reliable. I decided to take the plunge. I’ve always thought that the rule of allocating 10% of your expenditure on the audio gear should be allocated to cabling was a sensible one. I’ve never regretted any of the cable upgrades I’ve made in the past. So the Wireworld cable might sort out some of the digital confusion but I then had to deal with the analogue side.

I’ve never really rated Monster Cables. I think they’re overhyped and any cable manufacturer that flogs their wares in an electrical shop that also sells washing machines and fridges has got to be a bit a bit suspect. I’d only bought the 250 interconnect as a last resort because I couldn’t be bothered making the trip into town to by something better. I had a hunch the 250 cable was basically junk. Having read great reviews on the Chord Crimson Plus interconnect I decided I’d give it a try. What Hi-fi (again) had awarded it best cable of the year. It seemed to possess all the characteristics I was looking for. Transparency, neutrality, openness, good bass control, improved dynamics, great detail and acoustic delay. And quite affordable.

Knowing that poor cabling was very probably the root of my problems I was excited to try out the cables. I got home today and rewired the system and fired up the iMac. I can honestly say that the difference was immediately apparent. Anybody that tells you that cabling doesn’t make a difference to the quality of your system has never actually tried changing their wiring.

The difference really is immense. I was quite surprised and thrilled to hear the difference the new wiring made. Well worth the investment. Everything suddenly makes sonic sense. Everything is placed properly across the sound stage. The balance that the recording engineer intended is immediately apparent. A sense of scale and dynamics, sorely missing before, has been restored. The sense that you’re there with the musicians right in front of you is now evident. This, really, is what the hi-fi enthusiast is really striving for. Finally, it’s all come together. For the sound quality I now have in my first truly dedicated computer based audiophile grade audio system I’m delighted. And for the price I paid, a bargain. Plus it will last a lifetime.

Buy decent audio gear while your ears are still capable of hearing it!

Rhode Island Car Accidents: The Importance Of A Lawyer

The US have reportedly over 40,000 fatalities in road accidents every year, 32% of them have been due to alcohol. According to figures released by the US Department of Transportation over 31% of all Rhode Island Car Accidents also occur due to alcohol related incidents.

When an accident occurs, the last think a family thinks about is speaking to a lawyer, the emotional trauma and stress of going through something like this in unimaginable. But the truth is that at this juncture you need a lawyer the most. Any act of wrongful death should be compensated financially by the very entity responsible for the wrongful death.

The first major issue that the grieving family is confronted with is insurance companies. The insurance companies have vested interest and they want to ensure that any settlement is as low as possible, they know under the stress you are going through there would be no possible reaction.

They even try to solicit statements that can have a future impact. In many of Providence Car accidents cases, insurance company’s response has been typical; they always claim that the insurance does not cover the entire expenses (medical and others), therefore only a small amount of money can be delivered. This is when you really need a lawyer.

The Negotiations: Lawyers Credence

The lawyers deal with everything from negotiating with the insurance companies and the defendants for an out of court settlement. The lawyer’s fees aside the financial compensation which will be received in Rhode Island car accident cases is quite substantial.

They ensure that all medical and out of pocket expenses are covered as start to their negotiations. But it is the compensation for emotional trauma, loss of wages and future earnings which they help to secure. It is very important to record everything post the accident. Ensure that all medical expenses are well documented and other miscellaneous expenses have receipts.

Ensure that you do not say anything to insurance companies or other attorneys. It is your lawyer’s job to keep you safe from any such pressure and that you do not make any statement which can harm your case in the future. In many Providence car accidents cases, the lawyers have fought for the plaintiff and won large compensation depending upon the incidents. seriousness.

Gemmalaw.com is the Web home of one of Rhode Island’s most successful law firm – Gemma Law. The firm has built a very strong reputation in the last four decades of practice Providence Car Accidents. The company has extensive experience in dealing with personal injury cases such as any Rhode Island Car accidents. The law firm has always put its client’s priorities first and approaches every case with vigorously; a through research and analysis using state of the art computer software which updates every client case. The Indian Film Industry

The Indian Film Industry

Indian films began in 1896 when an agent from France brought his movie equipment and showed moving pictures in Bombay. That was an important point in Indian history  and the start of the development of the Indian film industry.

The first film made in India was released in 1913 by Dadasaheb Phalke. The film’s title was Raja Harishchandra. It was a mythological film that has since been produced several times.

There are now different types of film industries in India categorized by their regions. These are: Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Gujarati, Oriya, Punjabi and Assamese films.

The first Indian film shown in India was the movie Alam Ara which was released in 1931. It was also the first movie that had sound effects; the movie was  called a “talkie” because it was the first time the actors were heard talking in a film. This was again the beginning of a new era for the Indian film industry.

During the 1930s and 1940s Indian films began to have a modern outlook and  adopted the emerging societal ideas and practices of the decade. Film makers added major innovations to their films. In 1935, the movie Devdas was released. It wasan  important film of the decade. The film was directed by Pramathesh Barua. The movie was based on a love tale and presented the distinction between femininity and masculinity.

The world-famous Bollywood was a Hindi film industry that started in the 1970s. It is inspired by the American film industry’s Hollywood. Bollywood is now one of the leading film industries in the world which has released  many movies and introduced popular actors and actresses.

The Golden Age of the Indian film industry began in the 1940s. Some of the best films were produced during this decade until the 1960s. The films Pyaasa and Kaagaz ke Phool were two of the movies produced during the Golden Age.

In the 1950s, the Parallel Cinema movement began, led by the Bengalis. Some of the movies produced during this era were Neecha Nagar and Two Acres of Land.

The Indian modern cinema was introduced in the 1960s. It was when romance movies and action films became  popular in the Indian film industry. During the mid-1970s until the 1990s, Indian cinema began producing films about bandits and gangsters.

The Indian film industry continues to produce and release movies that reach the world beyond Bollywood. Indian film producers  are known to make lengthy movies, with some films  lasting three hours or more.
